Product Description:

This tablet combines ubidecarenone (coenzyme Q10) with levocarnitine (L-carnitine). CoQ10 carries electrons in the mitochondrial energy chain and is an antioxidant. Levocarnitine transports long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria so they can be burned for energy. Both are made by the body, but levels can fall with certain inherited disorders, with dialysis, and with some medicines — valproate lowers carnitine, and statins lower CoQ10.

The clearest uses are replacement in primary carnitine deficiency and primary CoQ10 deficiency, and carnitine in dialysis patients with documented deficiency. Evidence for supplementing either in heart failure, statin-associated muscle symptoms or male fertility is mixed, with some positive small trials and several neutral larger ones. Both are generally well tolerated. CoQ10 can reduce the effect of warfarin. High-dose carnitine can cause a fishy body odour and digestive upset.

Levocarnitine at therapeutic doses is registered as a prescription medicine in many markets, while lower-dose combinations are supplements, so classification follows dose and claims. CoQ10 absorption depends heavily on formulation, and a solid tablet is among the less favourable forms.
