Product Description:

Thiocolchicoside is a semi-synthetic sulphur derivative of colchicoside, a glycoside from the plant Gloriosa superba. It is a muscle relaxant, thought to act mainly at GABA-A receptors. This page lists 4 mg and 8 mg capsules, the systemic form for short courses in adults. Gel and cream forms also exist for application to the skin.

It is used as an add-on to pain relief for painful muscle spasm, mainly in acute back and neck conditions. After a European review found that a metabolite can damage chromosomes, oral and injectable use in the EU was limited to patients from 16 years, with short courses only: by mouth, at most 8 mg every 12 hours for up to 7 days. It must not be used in pregnancy, breastfeeding or by women of childbearing potential without effective contraception. It can trigger seizures in epilepsy. Diarrhoea and stomach pain are common. It is not approved in the US.

It is sold in parts of Europe, India and other markets, sometimes in fixed-dose combinations with NSAIDs, so check that thiocolchicoside, or any combination you plan to buy, is approved in your market. Where EU-style limits apply, the leaflet must show them. A CTD or ACTD dossier with bioequivalence data and zone IVb stability is expected. Capsules travel at room temperature in moisture-protective blisters. Request a CoA with every batch together with the GMP certificate and a CoPP.
