Product Description:
Tetracycline Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of tetracycline, a broad-spectrum naphthacene antibiotic produced semisynthetically from chlortetracycline, which is originally isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces aureofaciens. It is a member of the tetracycline class of antibiotics and works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Specifically, tetracycline blocks the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, preventing peptide chain elongation and effectively halting bacterial growth. This makes it effective against a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, acne, cholera, brucellosis, plague, malaria, and syphilis. Tetracycline also binds to newly formed bone, which allows it to be used in bone histomorphometry studies when visualized under fluorescence microscopy. The medication is available in oral capsules, tablets, and topical formulations, offering versatility in administration depending on the infection type. Tetracycline Hydrochloride is commonly sold under brand names such as Achromycin® and Sumycin® and is manufactured by various pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Its broad antimicrobial spectrum and multiple administration routes make it a valuable option for treating diverse bacterial infections under medical supervision.
