Product Description:
Risedronate Sodium, the sodium salt of risedronic acid, is a synthetic pyridinyl bisphosphonate used to treat and prevent osteoporosis and to manage Paget’s disease of bone. It works by binding to hydroxyapatite crystals in bone and inhibiting osteoclast-dependent bone resorption, thereby slowing down the activity of cells that break down bone. By reducing bone turnover, risedronate increases bone mineral density and strengthens bone structure, helping to lower the risk of vertebral and non-vertebral fractures in patients at high risk. The medication is administered orally in tablet form, with dosing schedules ranging from daily to weekly or monthly depending on the formulation and patient requirements. Risedronate Sodium is widely used for postmenopausal women, men with osteoporosis, and patients on long-term glucocorticoid therapy to maintain bone health. Its effectiveness depends on adherence to administration guidelines, such as taking the medication on an empty stomach with a full glass of water and remaining upright for at least 30 minutes afterward. Sold under brand names such as Actonel® and Atelvia®, risedronate sodium provides a reliable therapy option for strengthening bones and reducing fracture risk in clinical practice.
