Marketed under the brand name Altace by AstraZeneca, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension and for preventing the progression of heart failure in patients with a history of myocardial infarction.

Ramipril is also prescribed to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular mortality in patients over 55 years of age who are at high risk of atherosclerotic disease or other severe cardiac events.
