Product Description:
Diclofenac is an NSAID that blocks the COX enzymes and cuts prostaglandin production where pain and swelling arise. Applied as a gel, it reaches the underlying muscle, tendon and joint tissue while blood levels stay far below those from tablets. So the topical form gives local relief with far less of the stomach, kidney and heart risk of oral NSAIDs. This page covers gels at 1%, 2% and 4%. Products use diclofenac sodium or diclofenac diethylamine, so labels are not directly comparable.
Topical diclofenac is used for sprains, strains, soft-tissue injuries and localised musculoskeletal pain, and the 1% gel is approved in some markets for osteoarthritis of the knees and hands. The gel is rubbed gently into intact skin, as often as the label for that strength directs, and hands are washed afterwards. It must not go on broken skin, near the eyes or under occlusive dressings. Patients with aspirin- or NSAID-sensitive asthma should not use it, and it is avoided in the last trimester of pregnancy.
Sourcing notes. The 1% gel is sold without prescription in many markets, while other strengths may need a prescription. For topical generics in CTD or ACTD format, regulators may require in vitro release and skin permeation data or clinical equivalence, depending on the authority. Request Zone IVb stability covering viscosity, pH and assay. Laminated or aluminium tubes are standard. Store below 30 °C and do not freeze; no cold chain applies. Each batch needs a CoA, plus the GMP certificate and CoPP. State the salt and tube size.
