Product Description:

Cetirizine is a second-generation H1 antihistamine and the active metabolite of hydroxyzine. It blocks histamine at peripheral receptors and enters the brain far less than older antihistamines, so drowsiness is less common, though some patients still feel sleepy. This page covers cetirizine dihydrochloride oral syrup at 5 mg/5 mL, which is 1 mg per mL. The liquid exists mainly for children and for adults who cannot swallow tablets. It allows small measured doses for young children.

The syrup is used for the nasal and eye symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and for chronic urticaria.
