This oral suspension combines aluminium hydroxide with magnesium hydroxide, listed here at 405 mg and 100 mg per 5 mL. Both are insoluble bases that neutralise stomach acid on contact. The pairing is deliberate: aluminium acts slowly and tends to constipate, while magnesium acts faster and loosens the bowel, so the effects on the gut roughly cancel out. A liquid spreads over the stomach lining quickly, and hospitals keep it for patients who cannot chew or who need a measured dose.

It is used for heartburn, acid indigestion, dyspepsia and the symptoms of gastritis or reflux, and as support in peptic ulcer disease. A measured dose is usually taken after meals and at bedtime, and the bottle must be shaken well first. In poor kidney function both magnesium and aluminium can build up, so long-term use needs medical advice. Absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, iron salts and levothyroxine is reduced, and spacing doses by two hours avoids this. Persistent symptoms should be investigated, not masked.
