Product Description:

Pyridoxine hydrochloride is vitamin B6. In the body it is converted to pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, a coenzyme for more than a hundred enzymes, many involved in amino acid metabolism and the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA. It is also needed for haemoglobin synthesis.

It is used to prevent and treat deficiency, which can occur with poor diet, alcohol use disorder and some medicines. Isoniazid, used for tuberculosis, causes B6 deficiency and neuropathy, so pyridoxine is given routinely alongside it, and it is also given with penicillamine and some other drugs. It is used for nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, alone or with doxylamine, and at high doses for pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy and sideroblastic anaemia. The main safety issue is that long-term intake of high doses causes sensory neuropathy; EU authorities lowered the recommended upper limit in 2023, and some regulators require warnings on supplements above certain doses.
