Contains lactitol monohydrate 10gm and ispaghula husk 3.5g. It is used to treat constipation. Constipation is a condition in which you have bowel movements less than three times per week. This medicine should not be used if you have unexplained abdominal pain or bleeding, blockage in your bowel (not caused by constipation), or galactosaemia (a genetic disorder in which you cannot digest galactose).

Product Description:

This granule combines lactitol monohydrate, an osmotic laxative, with ispaghula husk, a bulk-forming fibre from psyllium seed. Lactitol is a sugar alcohol that is not absorbed in the small intestine; in the colon, bacteria ferment it into short-chain acids that draw water into the bowel and soften stool. Ispaghula absorbs water to form a gel, increasing stool bulk and consistency. The two act in complementary ways.

It is used for constipation, taken once daily with plenty of fluid. The fibre component must be taken with enough water, because too little fluid can cause the husk to swell and obstruct, particularly in people with swallowing difficulty or narrowed bowel. Bloating and wind are common early on and usually settle. Lactitol is also used in hepatic encephalopathy, where acidifying the colon reduces ammonia absorption, but that use needs higher doses and medical supervision.

The combination is registered mainly in South Asian markets, so confirm the destination regulator accepts it. Ispaghula quality depends on swelling index and purity, and the granules must be protected from moisture.
