Product Description:

This combination supplies iron as carbonyl iron together with zinc and folic acid. Carbonyl iron is elemental iron in finely divided form rather than an iron salt, and the distinction is practical: it dissolves slowly in gastric acid, so iron is released gradually, which reduces the gastric irritation that leads many people to abandon ferrous sulphate, and markedly reduces the danger of accidental overdose in children. Folic acid supports red cell production; zinc contributes to numerous enzyme systems and its absorption competes with iron's.

It is used to prevent and correct nutritional deficiency of these nutrients — in pregnancy, in menstruating women, during growth, and in recovery from surgery or illness. A supplement of this kind is for prevention and mild deficiency. Diagnosed iron deficiency anaemia requires a therapeutic dose and, in adults, investigation of the cause, since unexplained iron loss can be the first sign of gastrointestinal bleeding. Constipation and dark stools are expected.
