Product Description:

Dronabinol is synthetic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, produced to pharmaceutical standard so that dose is known and consistent. It acts on CB1 receptors in the central nervous system, damping the vomiting centre through a pathway entirely separate from the serotonin and neurokinin receptors that conventional antiemetics target — which is precisely why it retains value when those drugs fail.

It is indicated for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting not adequately controlled by conventional antiemetics, and for anorexia with weight loss in patients with AIDS, where the appetite-stimulating effect is the therapeutic aim. Central effects limit its use: dizziness, euphoria or dysphoria, paranoid ideation, somnolence and confusion, which are more pronounced in elderly patients. Dosing starts low and rises slowly. The oral solution reaches higher peak concentrations than the capsules and the two are not milligram-equivalent.
