Product Description:

Sodium tetradecyl sulphate is an anionic surfactant used as a sclerosant. Injected into a vein, it damages the inner lining, the endothelium, which leads to inflammation, clotting and later fibrosis, so the vessel closes and is gradually reabsorbed. The 60 mg strength corresponds to a 2 mL ampoule of the 3% solution, and weaker concentrations such as 1% and 0.5% are used for smaller veins. It can be injected as a liquid or mixed with air or gas into a foam, which displaces blood and treats larger veins.

Its established use is sclerotherapy of small, uncomplicated varicose veins of the legs and of reticular and thread veins, followed by compression bandaging or stockings. Gastroenterologists also use it for endoscopic sclerotherapy of bleeding oesophageal varices, although band ligation is now preferred in many centres. It is contraindicated in acute thrombophlebitis, deep vein thrombosis, prolonged immobility and significant arterial disease of the leg. Allergic reactions, including rare anaphylaxis, mean resuscitation equipment must be available. Leakage outside the vein can cause skin necrosis.

Sourcing notes. Specify both concentration and volume, for example 3% in 2 mL, because clinics often stock more than one strength. Glass ampoules are stored at room temperature, protected from light, and travel without a cold chain. Ask for a CoA per batch with assay, sterility, endotoxin and particulate results, a GMP certificate and CoPP. Registration status varies, so confirm it in your market; vein clinics sometimes import under specialist-use rules. It is prescription-only and given by trained clinicians.
